Tournament Weekend Day 1

Warming up on the range before our first round!

The golf tournament I signed up for was last weekend. What a blast! We kicked off “Go for the Gold” with a reception on Wednesday evening. Drinks and apps were had, I met many fabulous women, and watched three golf pros try to get closest to the hole on 18 from 125 yards out.

Thursday morning we met at the driving range around 11 AM (tee time at 1 PM) to warm up, chip, putt, and get lunch before heading out. I was nervous that the August heat would make it harder for me (the heat & sun and I don’t get along) but it was a perfect 71-degree, overcast day. Several Arnold Palmer’s later it was time to head out to the 15th hole for the shotgun start.

Traci and I were paired with another two ladies right about our age. It eased my mind to know we were playing with two women out there to have fun and not worry too much about the game or golf etiquette. We cheered each other on, laughed when we made bad shots, and looked for each other’s balls in the woods.

Since I’m playing with old clubs I can’t get a handle on my woods right now. I need new clubs!! I teed off every hole with an iron. I will say, that it did feel good to outdrive people with my four iron while they were using their woods. It was a little glimmer of my old self. I did have two pretty rough holes (damn sandtraps!) but made it through with a pretty good round. We went to the clubhouse, had snacks, a glass of wine, and popped raffle tickets in.

I headed home, put my hands in an Epsom salt soak, used my amazing shoulder massager, and my tens unit on my knees. Recovery looks different for me these days and that’s ok. I went to bed early to get ready for our 8 AM tee time the next day!
